A 1980 White shark jaw, which was bought from a seller from Madagascar, was acquired close to 2 years ago, was cleaned and restored on behalf of a client.
The jaw was sent to me in 2021 in a very poor state, having been stored for more than 40 years in a fishing village in Madagascar.
The shark was estimated to have been 7 metres in length, though I knew when I purchased it, that was not going to be true.
When I received the jaw, I measured it and came to the conclusion that it was probably closer to 5.5 to 5.6 metres in length.
After a lengthy cleaning and restoration process, the jaw was finally ready to be finished and mounted on a custom made stainless steel mount, and then a Grey gum stained wooden base was used as a base, weighing close to 8 kgs.
Such jaws are getting very hard to find, especially with CITES papers such as this one. The price of such jaws reflect both the rarity of these specimens and the fact they come with CITES documents.
